Monday Meet-up: Local Governments

We’re here to help, and so are your peers! Maine Preservation hosts virtual convenings on the first Monday of every month to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and support. The meetups are grouped by property ownership to encourage discussion and problem solving around shared challenges, stewardship strategies, and funding opportunities.

Towns, cities, and other units of local government are responsible for the historic fire stations, city and town halls, and bandstands that have long-served communities, and often end up inheriting former schools, meetinghouses, and the like. The maintenance of many of these buildings is essential to civic functions, while adaptive reuse of others could catalyze development. Tap into the knowledge and encouragement of fellow local elected officials and public servants to guide your work and foster public support necessary for preservation work.
