Nestled in the midst of the Oxford Hills, downtown Norway has a beautiful and vibrant downtown, including a significant National Register Historic District. A walk down Norway's Main Street is a stroll back in time, showcasing numerous examples of period architecture dating back as far as the early 1800s, but mostly built immediately after the Great Fire of 1894. We will visit several buildings on the tour. Possibilities include:
The Norway Opera House (which is in the midst of a significant rehabilitation)
Norway Memorial Library
Longley’s Hardware Building
Unitarian Universalist Church
Café Nomad
The Gingerbread House
Come learn about this inland hamlet on a tour with Scott Berk, owner of Cafe Nomad and member of the Maine Downtown Center Advisory Council, and Andrea Burns, Maine Preservation Advisory Trustee.
